BB: This band formation was newly created as a spin-off from my existing
rock band. In early 2020, just before the start of the pandemic, I began a new
relationship with my current girlfriend. She became the major source of
inspiration for the songs I have written since then, and as such, my new
songs had begun to morph towards a softer scale. That's when I came up the
idea to create this solo project by taking the bass guitarist from
the original band and adding a violinist and a vocalist, which together capture
the dreamy essence of the love songs in this new Americana style of music.
The song ‘Wildflower’ was written five years ago, and it is about a friend that I
knew at the time who kind of captured the inner free spirit of every
woman. Ironically, I got ‘the breakup text; as soon as the song was completed
and it is one of the most popular songs to date. The theme throughout the entire
CD is about love. The album starts with the idealistic concept of love which
pulls us in but is ultimately unattainable. Soon afterwards, reality kicks in, and
true love is experienced for the first time, but only to find that it is not perfect
and it sometimes comes at a cost. Love occasionally kicks you in different
directions, and in the end, the wildflower is found after a long search, but it is
not ideal and the discovery that love is perfect in its imperfections and
spontaneity is achieved. From a more global perspective, this is the story of life
in America in all its parallels. Lured by ideals and the promise of glory, we come
to discover that everyday life isn't easy. It's complicated, and we are repeatedly
put to the test to determine the extent of our belief in the concept that we dream
about. Eventually we find our way, but without losing hope in the dream. The
dream, however, changes and mixes with reality and comes full circle to look
like the wildflower that was conceived at the start.
MH: Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
BB: I'd like to take the music on the road. The reaction to the live music has
been fabulous. I would enjoy connecting with new people and seeing new
places. I also would like to see my songwriting keep developing into new
avenues. It's been so gratifying to come into my own as a songwriter. With the
assistance of today's technology, I am able to reach audiences far beyond my
limited reach. I'm excited to see how far the music will take me.
MH: Brian, thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to
interview you. What is one message you would give to your fans and
friends and is there anything else you want the readers of ION Indie
Magazine to know?
BB: Yes. Run until you find what makes your love shine. If you'll ride the wind,
you could feel so alive. Let your heart be free, let your heart be free.
