MH: Would you share with us a little on how you create music and where
do you get your inspiration?
BB: It just comes to me naturally in unexpected moments when I get inspired by
something that motivates me on a deep personal level. I have written numerous
songs throughout the thirty-plus years of my musical career. However, I wrote
some of my best music since the start of the pandemic. That is when my life
started changing for the better in so many ways. I began a new relationship with
my current girlfriend, I was cured of a stage two cancer that I finally took the
time to have treated, and I developed both bands at their optimal
configurations.
MH: Do you write alone and then present your music to the band or does
the band write together?
BB: I write the songs, but I entrust the judgment of my band members to play
their instruments as they see fit because that is my style of leadership, and I
also have a tremendous amount of respect for them as artists. The respect is a
two-way street. Everyone is happy to be a part of the group and the chemistry
is conveyed when we play.
MH: Has the pandemic slowed you down in performing shows?
BB: No, not at all. Thanks to the early inspiration of Chris Martin from Coldplay,
my girlfriend came home one day and suggested we take the lead and start to
videotape songs and post them online through Facebook. It was a great way for
us to stay connected with our followers throughout the pandemic. We traveled
to various unique locations like Sabino Canyon, Mount Lemon, Greer, AZ, and
San Diego, sometimes just stopping at random places on the fly. It was a lot of
fun, and the songs were very well received online as people had been starving
for live entertainment for some time by then. I also had the opportunity to play at
the Tucson Folk Festivals on Facebook Live from my living room! It's like the old
saying ‘through adversity comes opportunity.’ We found creative ways to keep
things going despite the logistical setbacks.
