LS: What lessons have you learned along the way in your musical journey and what was the
best advice you've ever received?
GGFO (Jon): I think the biggest thing I've learned is that there is so much magic in
collaboration. I used to worry that if I let someone else influence my song, it would water
down the concept. On the contrary, working with others unlocks ideas, and has the power
to make art much more dynamic. Running your ideas through someone else's filter is the best
way to make something exciting. A friend in college once told me to do 30% less. He was
referring to the over-excited way I was singing at the time. I've carried the 30% rule throughout
my life in many areas. Sometimes you just need to do less.
