I invite creators to look up their song creations with CISAC (head office of ISWC codes
world-wide), The INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION OF SOCIETIES AUTHORS
AND COMPOSERS, located in France. Go to ISWCnet.cisac.org-ISWC: Portal. Go to
titles search and enter your song title and your last name. If your song does not show
up, you have not registered your track with a PRO. Next, go to the arrow that says
“MORE” on it.
Click that to open and view which PRO is the authority of your music and see if
COMPASS is also associated with your music registrations. You most likely have
never heard of COMPASS, who they are or what they do with your music creations.
They license your music on that side of
the world and find companies who
utilize your music for all kinds of uses -
- including radio -- and despite having
millions of plays of your songs, the
PROs make minimal financial
offerings, for instance, over 2.4 million
plays on radio adding up to $64.00.
November 28, 2023, European artists
and labels asked EU to stop radio
royalties from going to U.S. Acts.
A quote in Billboard Magazine from
an article by Richard Smirke: “As a
result of a 2020 court ruling that
risks seeing European musicians
lose out on millions of Euros in
royalties each year to U.S. Acts, for
decades, American musicians have
been denied royalties for the use of
their music on broadcast radio or
when played in cafes, shops, and
bars in many overseas countries
due to the lack of equivalent
terrestrial radio performance and
public performance rights in the
United States.”
