Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander - A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.

Race/Ethnicity – Categories developed in 1997 by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) used to describe groups to which individuals

belong or identify with. The categories do not denote scientific definitions of anthropological origins. These categories are assigned to U.S.
citizens, resident aliens, and other eligible non-citizens. CHEMIS methodology states individuals who select Hispanic/Latino or are non-

resident aliens are not assigned an additional race category.

Two or More Races – A student selects more than one race category. This category is mutually exclusive with the other race/ethnicity categories.
CHE methodology does not count these students in the headcounts for the individual races they selected.

Unknown Race/Ethnicity – This category is used only if the student did not self-report a race or ethnic designation, and the college or university
finds it impossible to place the student in one of the aforementioned race/ethnicity categories during established enrollment procedures or in

any post-enrollment identification or verification process.

White – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East.
