Between the driveway and the kitchen was a large walnut tree. I have many memories
of eating cool watermelon on hot summer days.
The only thing that topped it was when my uncle, Clinton Cranmer, drove up with a
basket of clams from Barnegat Bay.
We especially loved eating the raw clams as he shucked them under the giant Walnut
tree outside my grandmother's kitchen door. We also watched Me-mom chop them in a
wooden bowl, beat some eggs, and then fry some mouth-watering clam fritters.
Wherever I’ve gone since I’ve never found any clams as tasty as that!
