family came through the Buffalo, New York Port of Entry and headed to Florida where
they moved into a cabin in Wauchula to try their hand at growing sugar beets.
Being unsuccessful at farming, my grandfather headed north to Philadelphia where he
worked as a loom repairman for a carpet factory. In 1925 he bought property in Pine
Beach, New Jersey at US 9 and Motor Road. He operated a Sunoco Service Station to
which he added a restaurant and bar. He and my father built a large two-story boarding
house with tourist cabins, a very successful business on the main highway between
New York City and Atlantic City.
