At Pathways we consider ourselves a family. Each year the graduating family of
Pathways starts their school year off at Adelphi University. Students engage in a day
of training and reflection to focus their thinking and work for the year. This day sets the
tone for the year as students begin the process of applying to college, competing for
scholarships and applying for financial aid.

In preparation for their senior year 20 students were selected as College Summit peer
leaders where they spent four days over the summer on the Campus of Monmouth and
Yale University to train as peer leaders. This training prepares them on the various
aspects of the college process including how to write a personal essay, complete the
common application and apply for scholarships and financial aid. As peer leaders, they
are then responsible for turn keying this information to their peers throughout the year.

By the end of their senior year students will have earned anywhere between 3-20
college credits. Starting in junior year students begin taking college courses at
Pathways. Each student starts off with a course in Black Studies and College Writing.
Once students reach senior year they are able to take additional courses on the campus
of Adelphi which aligns to their prospective major in college. Courses include statistics,
psychology, sociology, business, art and biology.

Graduates from Pathways have gone off to study at various universities all over the
United States including Adelphi in Garden City, Syracuse in upstate New York, Depauw
in Indiana, Lawrence in Wisconsin, and Howard in Washington DC. Two of our
graduates were awarded the prestigious POSSE scholarship to support their
educational endeavors. Alumni often return to Pathways between their studies to share
their college experience with the entire Pathways Family.
