Smart Science Scholars (S3) Program at Medgar Evers Preparatory School

Smart “Science” Scholars (S3) a robust and comprehensive Year Opened: 2011
“STEM-focused” Early College High School program. S3 is
comprised of three strands: early high school (6th - 8th grades); 2014-15 Enrollment: 330
early college/summer immersion (9th and 10th grades) and
early college that provides a seamless pathway to one of Male/Female Ratio: 99:231
seven undergraduate degrees in Biology, Computer Science,
Mathematics or Psychology and provides students with a solid Enrollment by Race/Ethnicity:
foundation for further studies in the natural and applied African American – 94%
sciences. Hispanic – 4%
Asian – 2%
The Program is enhanced by academic support, enrichment,
and immersion activities that will strengthen the pipeline Percentage Free/Reduced Price
between high school and college. Our program serves Lunch (FRPL): 87%
historically underserved populations while preparing students
for STEM careers, while also increasing the number of Average Number of College Credits
college-ready and college-bound high school students. The Earned by Grade Level:
program uses the facilities in the College’s state-of-the-art 9th grade – 0
science, health and technology facility which houses the 10th grade – 0
School of Science, Health and Technology. MECPS Smart 11th grade –26
“Science” Scholars are afforded the latest in technology, 12th grade – 24
scholarly research and internship opportunities with the
School’s renowned faculty. Average Number of College Credits
Earned by 2014 Graduates: 31
The Program prepares students for undergraduate degrees in
Biological Sciences (AAS); Computer Science (AS), 2014 Graduation Rate: 100%
Environmental Science (BS), Mathematical Science (BS) and
Psychology (BA). Coursework toward earning of degrees in Summer Program Offerings:
