Kalimat dalam contoh situasi 1(If I find it, I’ll give it to you) merupakan Conditional
Sentence type 1 (Future-Possible Condition).
Kalimat dalam contoh situasi 2( If I found £100 in the street, I would keep it) dan
contoh-contoh selanjutnya, merupakan Conditional type 2 (Present-unreal Condition).
Kalimat ini merupakan kalimat yang memiliki makna present, digunakan untuk
mengandaikan sesuatu yang tidak mungkin terjadi , atau sangat kecil kemungkinannya
untuk dapat terjadi.
Pada bagian if clause, kita menggunakan kata kerja past (kata kerja atau tobe bentuk ke
2), pada bagian main clause, kita menggunakan modals :would, could, might, should. If
clause dalam kalimat ini biasa kita sebut dengan “subjunctive”.
Perhatikan situasi di bawah ini:
Fact = You do not study. (Kamu tidak belajar)
➢ If you studied, you would learn English quickly.
Fact = I am not rich
➢ If I were rich, I would give my money to the poor.
Fact = I have a headache
➢ If I took an aspirin, my headache might go away.

Susunan klausa dapat ditukar:
If he smoked less, he wouldn’t cough so much.
He wouldn’t cough so much if he smoked less.
