aspects, important events, and outstanding
figures pertaining to the various spheres of
Armenian history. Through their creating,
shaping, and enhancing of cultural values in
general and religious, scientific, and moral
thought in particular, they have had a lasting
influence.
– Krikor Lusavorich (Gregory the Illumi-
nator, 4th C.). Two works have reached us
in his name, The Teaching of Saint Gregory,
which is an exposition of God's saving
deeds, and Stromateis, which is a collection
of twenty-three homilies that touch a large
variety of doctrinal and pastoral themes.
Some ascribe these works to St. Mesrob, the
inventor of the Armenian alphabet.
– Akatankeghos (5th C.) is considered
our most ancient historian. His book, History
of Armenia's Conversion to Christianity, is a
unique source for the early development of
Christianity in Armenia.
– Movses Khorenatsi (5th C.) is regarded
as the father of Armenian historiography.
His work, History of Armenia, is an important
reference for the early history of Armenia. It
contains valuable materials on Armenia’s
pre-Christian period.
– Pavestos Puzant (5th C.), a well-known
historian, whose work focuses mainly on the
4th Century.
