                      U14 Winter School of Excellence & Development Squad Report 2020

        Following approval of our proposal to run an U14 School of Excellence in October 2019, we
        commenced with communication to clubs in early November explaining the School of Excellence
        program and asking for a list of interested players. The aim, rather than just arranging two or three
        trial games and picking a panel of 48 players to bring straight into the development squad, was to
        introduce as many camogie players as manageable to an efficient county set up where the players
        would get an introduction to strength and conditioning, fitness, speed and agility, nutritional advice
        and skills development. In order to manage a greater number of players we established three
        regional program bases, West Clare based in Gurteen co-ordinated by Paul Queally, Mid Clare
        based in Shannon & Newmarket co-ordinated by Anthony O’Looney and East Clare based in
        Scariff, co-ordinated by Cormac Heffernan and we ran the program concurrently across each
        region.

        We gathered all interested players from the clubs collated by Jimmy Kenny and divided them up
        between the three regions based on club submissions and distributing evenly between A,B and C
        graded clubs according to the 2019 U13 competition. This in so far a possible, ensured each of the
        three regions had an even spread of strong, competitive players. The program commenced on
        Saturday the 16 November 2019 with over 130 players attending. Attendance varied week on
                          th
        week but on average we had 35 to 40 in attendance in Mid & West and 45 to 50 in East.

        Each session was a 90 minute session broken down as follows;

        •  Dynamic Warm Up – 5 to 10 minutes
        •  Each group split into 3 groups and they each do a 25 minute session in rotation as follows;
                •  Strength & Conditioning
                • Wall Ball / Small Sided Games
                •  Fitness / Speed
        • Warm down and static stretch

        We ran 5 of these from Nov 16 to December 14 2019 and another 5 on the 18 and 25 of January
                                                                                                    th

        and again on February 8 , 15 and 22nd with a progression in Fitness / Speed and Strength &

                                    th
        Conditioning built into the program from the pre to post Christmas blocks. This speed and strength
        program was developed by a Strength & Conditioning coach, Derek Morris. Having consulted with
        the management group and Jimmy Kenny, he designed the program and visited each region twice
        over the 12 week program and the players really appreciated the expertise being communicated
        in those sessions. We built two interregional blitzes into the program, the first was held on both pitches
        in Clonlara on February 1 and the second on February 29 in Sean Coill Astro Turf pitch in Parteen.
