1. Different Patterns

Unit Overview

A pattern is a sequence of an event or object that follows a fixed rule. Some of
the patterns that children already see in their daily lives are as follows: the
repetition of breakfast, lunch, and dinner on a daily basis, the order of lights on a
traffic light, designs on clothing or gift-wrap. In this unit, students will develop
insight through finding patterns using the properties of patterns, and they will
continue to build their reasoning skills by predicting next steps. Patterns are an
important study that improves overall mathematical insight for numbers and
operations.

Pattern Increasing Numbers
A pattern is made when shapes or letters are laid out in a certain
order and then repeated. The repeated group is called a set. These figures are made of stacked wooden blocks. Count the
number of wooden blocks and notice that the number

Guide the students to find repeating sets and relationships between objects and numbers by
observing the change in the color, amount, or shape for the given patterns.
