               Introduction

           What is the ESD Toolkit

           all about?

The Toolkit is a resource for Intermediate Phase Science Educators
covering different topics in all the Natural Science and Technology
           strands.

The resource includes appropriate strategies for ESD, science
           literacy and numeracy.

           What is ESD?
In December 2002, the United Nations General Assembly adopted
a resolution to initiate a Decade of Education for Sustainable
Development (DESD), spanning from 2005 to 2014. Governments,
international organisations, NGOs, educational institutions and Info
schools were variously engaged in campaigns to promote ESD on
a global scale. For general information
                                                                                         on these campaigns
                                                                                         and activities, see the

The overall goal for the DESD was to integrate website (www.unesco.

ESD has now been recognised internationally as a key component
of quality education and as a consequence UNESCO adopted the Useful Websites

In 2015, at the United Nations Development Programme Summit,
17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were put forward.
