Topic 2: An Introduction to Structured Lesson Design

Study notes
1. Instructional methods are the psychological tools you can use to
generate the learning outcomes that best improve job
performance
2. Lessons with the structured approach have three major sections:
Introduction,
Supporting knowledge, and
Major task(s) steps or guidelines of the lesson, including a brief
lesson summary.
3. A lesson introduction typically uses one to two pages in a
workbook or two to three screens in an e-learning lesson. The
introduction to the lesson should include:
Context
Importance
Content Overview
Lesson Objectives
Table of Contents or Navigational List of Topics
4. The body of the lesson includes two sec-tions: knowledge and
the major task steps or guidelines
5. A brief lesson summary includes a condensed presentation of the
key information points and a reminder of the lesson objective to
focus trainee attention on their achievement of the performance
outcomes of the lesson
6. Lesson Structure for Workbooks Versus e-Learning:
The above described structure can be used for e-learning as
well as for workbook
