5. Drawing on External Research
If you are not an expert in the area to be trained, you might
locate a recognized expert who could help you identify
the most relevant research guidelines
A second approach is to abstract the basic principles or
guidelines by analysing the actions or work products that
reflect best practices either within your organization or
external to it via benchmarking
6. Identifying Guidelines from Best Practices
Your first step will be to identify employees, teams, or
products that embody best practices and compare them
with the work of those whose practices are new or average
It is critical to observe several master performers in order
not to misconstrue one top performer's idiosyncratic
techniques as an important feature
