The Mayhew Program, in Partnership with NH Fish & Game and Slim Baker Association Enjoyed a Day Out on the Ice
The Mayhew Program, a non-profit that mentors at-risk New Hampshire boys to de- velop ideals of respect, responsi- bility, and community, is grateful for its community partners. This past Saturday, in Meredith, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Guides and Volunteers from the Slim Baker Association hosted an ice safety/ice fishing clinic for the participants. The event was organized by Mayhew Out- reach Worker and NH Fish and Game Volunteer, Jim O'Brien.
The day started off with an ice safety lesson, and then the boys learned the proper tech- niques of setting fish traps. When the boys weren't fishing, they were enjoying playing in the snow, making snow angels, playing football, frisbee, and chess! At the end of the day, they enjoyed some hot chili and s'mores! It was a great day of learning and fun!
Since 1969, the program has worked with over 2,500 young men from across the state of New Hampshire, helping them to find their best. The Mayhew Program is the only program in the state of New Hampshire that provides a combined men- toring program and summer
camp experience, completely tuition-free for the boys that they serve. Mayhew helps to provide structure, skills, and en- couragement as the boys define success in their own lives.
All Mayhew participants benefit from regular mentoring visits in their home communities from Mayhew's team of profes- sional outreach staff in one-on- one and small group settings throughout the year. The focus is on helping the boys apply the program ideals of respect, responsibility, community, and challenge to their lives at home, school, and beyond.
