The Time to Shop Local for Delicious Food Starts Now
By Donna rhoDes
Mid to late summer might be considered the most delicious time of the year when crops begin to be harvested and, make no doubt about it, area farmers are eager to share the “fruits of their labor” with everyone look- ing for locally sourced foods. Lo- cally there are two popular far stands.
Longview Farm, located at 175 Quincy Rd. in Plymouth, recently expanded its former outdoor stand, making it a fully indoor operation now with bins, shelving, and refrigeration to display and preserve their many vegetables, fruits, cut flowers, and other goods. Currently, their greenhouses are producing cherry, specialty, and other vari- eties of tomatoes. They also have fresh zucchini, summer squash, and a few other early crops on hand for their customers, but there is much more to come.
Set on 50 acres of fertile land, Longview Farm has a new indoor farm stand with plenty of their locally grown and produced foods available to all who drop by to shop at 175 Quincy Rd. in Plymouth.
Another feature of the farm is the Nourish Food truck parked out front, serving healthy and delicious foods for all who stop by. The farm stand is open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day. People can also visit them online at www.longviewstand to learn more about the latest crops being harvested and what’s soon to come.
Just south of there in Bristol, folks are also shopping at Walk- ers Farm now, where, like most other stands this time of year, it is zucchini, squash, cucumbers, radishes, greenhouse tomatoes, and kale filling their bins. Other available items are their maple syrup, honey, cut flowers, and hanging baskets. And although the local strawberry season is over, the Walkers said they have
supplies of juicy Canadian straw- berries that will be available through Labor Day. Of course, by then, their famous corn and other popular late summer crops will fill their stand just before the pumpkins ripen. What makes a stop at their farm even better is a nice selection of their own beef, available in a variety of cuts.
And if you need one other reason to stop by their farm, the Walkers also have two goats, Ginger Snap and Caramel, a cow named Clover, and beautiful Bun-Bun, the long-haired rabbit who loves seeing visitors of all ages.
Open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Walkers Farm is located on Walker Rd., less than two miles south of the traffic light in downtown Bristol.

They are known for having de- licious corn each summer along with a host of other vegetables that will soon be ready for har- vest. Syrup from their neighbors at Brox Farm and local honey are other staple items on the shelves, while another unique feature at Longview is their Pick Your Own
Flowers option. But, if people are in a rush, they can also pur- chase beautiful cut bouquets to decorate their dining tables.
