Swap Meet
12
PURPOSE
To see if job responsibilities can be shared to accommodate preferences and strengths of team members.
DESCRIPTION
Team members may be able help each other out in their individual jobs in ways not previously thought. It is possible that the least favorite part of someone’s job is something another person actually enjoys. Perhaps
there is part of somebody’s brain they’d like to use for which someone else has the perfect opportunity. Maybe somebody has a template for a report that others could use or a contact or resource that could help someone else.
If folks can agree on a swap, why not?
TEAM TIME 20 minutes
SUPPLIES
Pens & three papers per person
Steps:
• Give each participant three pieces of paper. Ask them to put their name on each piece of paper and finish these sentences on separate pieces of paper: What I’d like to do more of in my job... What I’d like to do less of in my job... What would help me do my job...
• Collect the papers and lay them out on a large table, facing all sides of the table so people can walk around it. Ask folks to take a look at the papers and see if there is something they can help someone else with or vice versa. Encourage people to make arrangements with each other to help each other out. This may also be a way of seeing if people are interested in training in new areas.
