PURPOSE
To have people use problem-solving skills and creativity to come up with ways to help each other with new practices or procedures which have come about through culture change.
DESCRIPTION
Participants will think of ways to make their jobs easier, more efficient or person-centered and present them to the rest of the team.
PARTICIPANTS
The Action, Steering, Neighborhood or Household Team
TIME
30 minutes, or alternatively minutes in initial team meeting, the span of time between meetings and 10 minutes during second meeting.
Steps:
• Present the issue to the group: As we move toward more person-centered practices, have cross-trained staff and staff with blended roles, and are working with the
same small group of residents, we are adjusting to this new way of doing things on many levels. We are trying to break our institutionalized mindset. We’re learning new ways to do our jobs and even learning skills that weren’t even required
before. These “new ways” range from better communication techniques and shared leadership to individualized morning routines and alternative bathing practices.
• Ask participants to get into pairs or trios. Ideally, the smaller groups will include people with different expertise. (cont.)
