A Successful Learning Strategy
I have always thought of mini whiteboards as a powerful tool for Primary students. One day I decided to use them to play Tombola with my Stage 4 students instead of printing new cards. I also wanted to give students the opportunity to choose their own numbers. I could not imagine how they would enjoy writing and ‘doing’ rather than just ‘been given what to do’. I then extended this activity to number spelling dictation to practise their writing skills and it was another success. Students started asking me to use them more. I realised that this was a good way to give everyone a go because everyone could participate without necessarily speaking and therefore felt free to make mistakes without being judged. Not only. I was able to give instant feedback to students when they showed me what they had written and they could edit it straightaway.
I started to use the mini whiteboards for different purposes, including comprehension passages, fill in the blank activities, vocabulary revision and many others. A great unexpected success!
