Change
Embracing Change
Change is universal. However, it manifests itself in very different ways, depending on the situation, the
environment, the people, and the timing. You can test this theory by looking around your organization.
What's happening in it now? What about in the last six months? What's expected to change in the near
future? Understanding the recent past, the present, and the near future will prepare you to address
important issues connected with a change. And it will surface the fears, concerns, challenges, and
opportunities that you need to discuss and confront.
Making Change Happen
Which would you prefer: the kind of change that hits broadside, upsetting routines and causing confusion, or
the kind that you and your associates would implement? Probably the second one, but the fact is both kinds
happen all the time. How you introduce change and encourage people to implement it go a long way toward
ensuring your team's success in an ever-evolving workplace.
Overcoming Resistance to Change
Change can be disorienting. When people must give up old ways of thinking and working while adapting to
something new and unfamiliar, they can feel unsure, confused, or even afraid. So, it's only natural that some
people will resist change—especially when they can't control it. You can overcome that resistance by
encouraging people's understanding, ownership, and trust.
Coaching
Adapting Your Leadership Approach
You just met with a team member to delegate an important assignment. But the meeting didn't go well. The
person asked a lot of detailed questions that you couldn't answer, tried to push back responsibility to you,
and left the meeting looking anything but engaged. Why didn’t things go as planned?
Fundamentals of Feedback
Feedback tells you whether you're moving toward achieving your goals. People typically welcome positive
feedback, as it meets the common personal need to feel valued and appreciated. More than that, when
someone does well and receives positive feedback, it helps that person know what behavior to repeat in the
future. Developmental feedback is just as critical for helping people apply more effective approaches and
achieve positive results at work. It lets people know what they can do to correct mistakes and helps them
develop and grow professionally.
