During the very short time notschool.net has been running as a
pilot its pupils have gone from virtually zero success rating in formal
qualifications to about the same level of achievement as children
in traditional schooling.
The exciting question for us is what will a 21st century school look
like? First of all it probably won’t be called a school – there seems
to be increasing desire to break out of the vocabulary of the old
model of learning and to create something very different. Other
pertinent questions are how does our society get value from the
huge investment it’s making into educational environments, and if
we’re going to embark on such radical change how do we do it
so quickly? The timescale is 10 to 15 years in which to completely
transform school processes and forge new engagement with the
wider community. These are big questions that we all need to
engage with.
