FA Women’s National League
Northern Premier Division
AFC Fylde Women have made a swift return to the
top of the league as they won 3-0 against Hull City.
Emily Hollinshead, Faye McCoy and Sasha Rowe all
scored a goal apiece for the Coasters to help them
maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign.
Fylde head the table on goal difference from Wolverhampton Wanderers who
continue to impress in the division since being promoted, beating previous leaders
Nottingham Forest 1-0. Anna Morphet scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark
for Wolves, who are still yet to concede in the league so far.
Huddersfield Town would have gone up to third with a win but instead went down
to their first defeat of the season, 4-0 at the hands of Burnley FC Women. Elizabeth Hamer,
Millie Ravening, Courtney Willis and Nicola Worthington all scored a goal apiece for the Clarets
as they returned to form with a bang.
Brighouse Town ensured they remain in the top half of the table, thanks to a 4-1
victory over Middlesbrough. Substitute Amy Woodruff had a great day for Brighouse, hitting
a second half hat-trick and Leah Embley added their other goal, with Lauren Robson
responding for 'Boro.
Stoke City meanwhile got off the mark in style, running out 5-1 winners away to
Loughborough Lightning. Beth Roberts was on target twice for Stoke along with Roisin
Kivel, Jessica Smith and Rebecca Knight, whilst Loughborough's consolation came from
Lauren Taft.
West Bromwich Albion also notched up their first win, beating Sheffield FC 2-1.
Leanne Robinson and Leigh Dugmore were the scorers for Albion, with Yasmin Mason
replying.
Southern Premier Division
Southampton FC Women scored nine times for the second week running and this keeps
them at the top of the table on goal difference. This time it was Hounslow Women who were
their victims, Ciara Watling leading the scoring by hitting a hat-trick. Ella Pusey weighed in
with a double and there was one apiece from Leeta Rutherford, Sophia Pharoah, Georgie
Freeland and Shelly Provan.
Second placed Ipswich Town meanwhile kept a fifth successive clean sheet as they
won 4-0 away to Chichester & Selsey, courtesy of a goal apiece from Maddie Biggs, Natasha
Thomas, Zoe Barratt and Lucy O'Brien.
Oxford Utd scored five times without reply away to Plymouth Argyle and this
result takes them up into the top three. Beth Lumsden had a great day in front of goal for the
U's as she bagged a hat-trick, whilst Carly Johns added the other two goals.
Portsmouth follow on after they defeated Keynsham Town 6-1, with leading
scorer Cherelle Khassal netting another two goals to take her tally to eight for the season.
Hayley Bridge, Shannon Albuery, Tamsin De Bunsen and Emma Jones were Pompey's other
markswomen, with Keynsham's consolation coming from Kerry Bartlett.
Crawley Wasps were 1-0 winners over Milton Keynes Dons in a game which was
overshadowed to an injury sustained by Dons striker Millie Coupar. The good news is that she
is on the road to recovery, whilst for the Wasps, they took the points with an early strike from
Nicola Gibson.
Bridgwater Utd are still the division's third unbeaten team although they lost a little
ground when they shared a goalless draw with Gillingham, for whom the point was a great
response after a heavy defeat the previous Sunday.
