An Even 4 to beat Odd Down
Even though 2-0 to the good, Brislington looked at mes a li le lethargic
and slightly sloppy in possession, however they were s ll solid defensively
and working hard to win back possession. The visitors con nued to ba le
hard, but the rest of the half was s ll going Brislington’s way with another
corner flashing across the Odd Down goal and McLennan, Griffiths, Buck
and Scadding consistently causing the visi ng defence problems.
Half Time Brislington 2 - Odd Down 0
The second half was much more controlled for the home team as they
began to move the ball well through the lines, and a er Buck had gone
close again, this was typified on 60 minutes when a move from back to
front involving most of the Brislington team culminated in a shot from
McLennan that was well saved by Bryan. On 63 minutes another well
worked move finished with the impressive Me ers sweeping the ball
home, low to the keepers right. The third goal was also the Catalyst for
Manager Lee Perks to make some personnel changes and a bruised and
ba ered Griffiths made way for Danny Doddimead, harshly serving a 5
match ban for ‘wrongspeak’ which took 84 days or 12 weeks in total to
complete!! Jordan Me ers was also replaced by George Jones who’d played
a starring role in the midweek cup win. Ten minutes later it was Doddimead
who capped his return to ac on with a goal. Oaklan Buck raced on to a long
ball but was tackled by the keeper who had in turn raced to the edge of his
box to intercept, the ball broke to Doddimead who, with keeper stranded,
calmly dinked the ball past the defender into the unguarded net from just
outside the 18 yard box. If not already over, that effec vely ended the game
as a contest. Buck who had scored his 10th goal in 12 starts since joining
from Bishop Su on in October, was replaced on 75 minutes by James Dunn.
Perks then made two final changes, Barwood for Allward and Ewins for
McLennan and the home side were able to see out the remainder of the
game with very li le drama, bar a Bryan Free kick on 78 minutes.
All in all a very sa sfactory day at the office, and another difficult e
navigated successfully.
