Match Report

low again to the keepers le for his 10th of the season and the foxes 4th on the day, all inside of 25
       minutes.
On the half hour mark, McLennan, again having an excellent game stole the ball and cut inside across
the 18 yard box hi ng the bar with his looping effort. The foxes were a emp ng to move the ball
around more, Wincanton were relying on a more direct approach including long throws however
they were dealt with comfortably for the most part the Foxes back line.
Just before half me a goal kick from Dorrington was superbly flicked on from Buck for Doddimead
who med his run to perfec on and travelled with the ball for thirty yards before sidestepping the
recovering defender and rounding the keeper brilliantly to finish with his le for number 5.
There was s ll me for Scadding to ‘clip the moon’ with an effort before the break (pitch again
playing it’s part) a er a good run and lay back from McLennan this me from the right but the
terminal damage had already been done.
Half Time Wincanton 0 Brislington 5

Wincanton started the second half with some purpose and 1 minute in a free kick was hoisted
directly under the Brislington bar for the big men to test Dorrington however the Foxes keeper calmly
gathered. Wincanton a empted to apply more pressure on the Brislington box with another long
throw, and a mazey run and one two between Williams and Dicker showed promise but resulted in
nothing more than a goal kick. However on 55 minutes, McLennan showed them how it should be
done!! Dunn mopped up long clearance and found the Brislington live wire just inside the Wasp’s
half, under pressure he turned and carried the ball down the line to the edge of the box. With the
                     Leaders show their worth
defender looking like he had it all covered and McLennan with his back to goal it seemed threat over,
but McLennan had other ideas! He changed direc on and headed back across his man and in to the
box where he unleashed a right footed shot into top corner of the near post, 0-6 and the pick of the
       bunch so far.
On 60 minutes the home side came close to reducing the deficit with another long deep free kick
which caught Dorrington out with his first a empt to gather and the ball looped to Garner who
headed goalward only to see the recovering keeper catch the ball on the line to deny the Wasps top
       scorer.
A running theme of Brislingtons last few games has been the work rate, and this was typified again
by Buck, Doddimead, Scadding, McLennan and Jones in par cular who con nuously harried the
Wincanton defence and midfield. This was highlighted by the 77th minute 7th goal. A er a quick free
kick deep in the Bris half between McLennan, Me ers, Buck’s flick didn’t quite send Doddimead
through, however the tenacious striker pressurised the goal keeper hard making him miss kick his
clearance, the newly introduced Wasps midfielder Voisey looked like he had enough me to gather
and turn however the equally tenacious Scadding pounced on him to steel the ball and drove
forward into the box where the hapless subs tute was forced into a foul, conceding a penalty. Up
stepped White to score his second of the match taking his season’s tally to 19!
White, McLennan, Allward, and Scadding made way for Ewins, Tucker, J Dunn, and Josh Egan and the
Foxes weren’t done yet. Another long Kick from Dorrington was flicked on again by Buck to
Doddimead who ran towards the touch line to gather and turn sidestepping a recovering defender
and driving his way into the box along a similar path of McLennan 30 minutes earlier, this me
drilling his Finish low to the near post from a slightly ghter angle for his second of the game,
Brislington’s 8th and Doddimead’s 10th of the season. There was s ll me for the home team to hit
the crossbar via Dorringtons finger ps, the follow up was also saved by Dorrington smartly to his le ,
there was simply no way through for the home side!!
       Full Time:
       Wincanton 0 Brislington 8
All in all Brislington can be very happy with their start to the New Year - 20 goals scored with 0
conceded makes good reading for Gaffer Lee Perks and his men.
