Match Report
AN EVEN 4 UP TO BEAT ODD DOWN
5 February 2023
Saturday 4th February
Brislington FC v Odd Down
the Foxes were playing their third game in 8 days a er playing just twice in
the previous 52, due to the poor weather throughout December and
January.
Josh Egan missed out a er suffering a hamstring strain v Cadbury Heath,
Danny Barwood and Dean Griffiths returned to the star ng line up a er
being rested midweek and George Jones dropped to the bench.
Next up was 6th placed free scoring Odd Down who boasted the leagues
current top finisher in Luke Bryan (25).
The game started scrappily although Brislington were the more lively with
Tucker and Buck linking well down the right and the commi ed Scadding
perpetually threatening through the middle. On 11 minutes a well worked
corner between McLennan and Me ers from the Foxes right resulted in a
cross which was headed back across goal for the in form Buck to slide in;
1-0. Two minutes later and Buck saw another effort go just over and the
Odd Down defence was creaking. On 18 mins the wholehearted No 9
Griffiths was penalised for a strong coming together with his opposite
number wide on the le . Both players were pleading innocence, the Odd
Down player, despite receiving the free kick, apparently pleaded too hard
and was sin binned!! The referee clearly wan ng to stamp his own mark on
the game!
Four minutes later a superb run by Scadding saw him wriggle through the
pack to emerge 1 on 1 with the Odd Down Goalkeeper Ash Bryan only to
see his shot well saved. It took un l 30 minutes for Odd Down to force
Dorrington into meaningful ac on, a good move down the right saw a neat
ball slid into the 18 yard box and the striker under pressure from Asa white,
struck low to keeper Dorrington’s near post, however the ex Man Utd man
had it well covered.
On 35 minutes another Scadding run resulted in a free kick 15 yards outside
the box. Jordan Me ers ra led the bar with his 30 yard effort, and Dean
Griffiths beat the defender to the rebound, finishing calmly with his thigh.
