Curriculum

Senior Cycle (Two Years)

Leaving Certificate (LC)
Senior Cycle Students follow a two year programme leading to the Leaving Certificate Examination. All
subjects are offered at all levels with students being encouraged to pursue subjects at higher levels. We
take a student centred approach to subject options with the opportunity being afforded to study an
extensive curriculum. Students are surveyed well in advance of entering senior cycle and every
opportunity is taken to ensure student preference is met resulting in the highest possible satisfaction
rating.

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)
The LCVP is an enhanced Leaving Certificate Programme. Students who have specified subject
combinations, as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills, qualify to take the "Link
Modules" - Enterprise Education, Preparation for Work and Work Experience. It is a very worthwhile
programme that combines the academic strengths of the Leaving Certificate with a dynamic focus on
self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community.

Additional Educational Needs

Coláiste Nua values the educational well-being of each and every one of its students. For those students who have Additional
Educational Needs, whether they be educational, medical, psychological or social, we have excellent supports in place to
ensure that whatever support they require is available. It is imperative that each student feels they are an integral and valued
part of the college community and that they can achieve to their full potential. Specialised qualified teaching staff and
pastoral care teams will ensure that their time through secondary education is a rewarding one.

QQI Level 4 is available as a senior cycle option and offers a direct transfer to Level 5, post leaving certificate courses.
