Extra– Curricular
Extra Curricular Activities have been identified as an important part of life in our new
school. They will provide students with a wide range of opportunities which will
complement the academic curriculum, allowing students to take advantage of all the
facilities available.
Student Voice
A Student Council is a representative structure through which students in a post-primary school can
become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management and staff
and parents for the benefit of the school and its students (Department of Education & Science, 2002).
The Student Council in Coláiste Nua will play a central role in school life ensuring the voices of all
students are taken cognisance of as the school evolves and develops. They will create awareness
among the student population about important matters related to wellbeing, curriculum, teaching and
learning and in this covid environment, health and safety . Strong student leadership is encouraged and
facilitated through mentoring programmes in the school and through opportunities for the expression
of these skills for the betterment of the students in the school.
