Once upon a time, a long time ago, one night, and one day
are adverbs of time in defining when an event took place in the

past. Adverbs of time are often used in story telling or narrative

texts such as fairytale, fable, myth, and legend to build the story

               presented.

Once upon time is a fronted adverbial phrase, which
consists of a combination of the prepositional phrase "upon a

time" and the adverb "once" and is usually located at the

beginning of the sentence. The same thing goes to a long time

ago, one night, and one day. They are also fronted adverbial

phrases that often used in past tense in oral and written

               narrative text.

In our daily life, the adverb of time is used to show the time

signals of the events that happen. The adverb of time is usually

used to answer questions such as how long…, how often..., how

               soon…, when…, at what time…, and at what intervals….

                   ➢ Example:

                       1) I will call you later.

                       2) I saw that movie last year.
