THE POWER OF TAKING THE PLUNGE

month to get it right. I once heard Denis
Waitley say that habits start off like flimsy
cobwebs, and with practice, they become
unbreakable steel cables that either shackle or
               strengthen your life.

We aren't even aware of most habitual words
and actions that we say and do. We've become
masters of our habits. When our habits are
               formed, we've become unconsciously
competent in the task. We don't even need to
use our conscious thoughts to perform the acts.

I wish I could discover who came up with the
four levels of mastery, or the four levels of
learning. If someone should happen upon the
genius who did, please give him or her credit for
it, and let me know who it was. Here are the
               four:

               1. Unconscious Incompetence
               2. Conscious Incompetence
               3. Conscious Competence
               4. Unconscious Competence (Mastery)

Let me illustrate how this works. I’ll use shoe
               tying as an example.
