THE POWER OF TAKING THE PLUNGE
In the first movie, Rocky was considered a
nobody that ended up fighting the World
Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed. In one
of the scenes, a fifteen-year-old girl in the
Philadelphia neighborhood was walking down
the street with Rocky. He'd just observed her
hanging out with some thugs. He managed to
get her attention and consequently got her away
from the crowd of unruly youths. He started
giving her a lecture that illustrates a significant
point for you to consider. He began by saying,
"If you hang out with smart people, you're
going to be smart; if you hang out with stupid
people, you're going to be stupid." He then gave
her more contrasting comparisons throughout
their short encounter. The girl passively agrees
with Rocky until she arrives at her apartment.
Once she entered the front screen door, closed
it, then turned facing Rocky, she uttered, "Up
yours, Rocky!" She then made the universal
gesture by swinging her arm and bending the
elbow swiftly as her middle finger extended. I
think you get the picture. But the point of this
profound wisdom that Rocky shared with the
