I once heard Brian Tracy say that we become
the average of the five people we spend the
most time with. I'm convinced he's right. Rocky
Balboa had the secret of success. Our
environment of our social reference group has
a tremendous impact on our failures and our
successes. Brian went on to say that if you're the
smartest person in your group, you need to find
another group. Your growth and success will be
stifled.
What I find interesting is that when we start to
move our minds in another direction, when we
become aware that our thoughts are evolving
and our ideals begin to change, our current
reference group tends to get uncomfortable.
Remember, only babies with wet diapers like
change. Even if your social network of friends
and loved-ones appear to be happy for you
when you begin to progress they will
consciously and unconsciously attempt to
sabotage your success. They don't purposely
