want to hurt your feelings, they are simply
trying to stay in their comfort zone.

I’m quite certain that once you look back on
your past, you soon recognize that you’ve
changed your social networks. I can’t even
imagine engaging in past networks of what I
considered to be my buddies. I’m not saying
that I’m superior to those in my past, it’s just

that my interests have evolved differently. I first
recognized that after I’d been on active duty in
the U.S. Marine Corps.

Every young man and woman who join the
Corps, go through a noticeable transformation,
both physically, mentally, and spiritually. As the
Marine Corps recruiting billboards proudly
proclaim, “The Change is Forever!” I believe
that to be true. However, I have witnessed a few
‘former’ Marines who’ve been inundated in
cultural norms for so long that a lot of the
Marine Corps image is unrecognizable. This

analogy is an example of how social networks
play a significant role in our success or failure.
