Edition 118– January 2024
Dear Members,
As we move into the New Year our thoughts are drawn to our BPW UK AGM,
Inter-regional Public Speaking Final and the National Conference in Bristol. The
Conference Taskforce has been putting together the registration form and indeed,
the programme for the weekend. It is proving to be an interesting event, with
great speakers taking part in a panel format allowing for a discussion on the differ-
ent points of views. As we know, a subject is not one simple side, but it is built to
be a 3D topic!
Ann Wiseall will be sending to each member the documentation needed for
our Constitution, AGM and indeed any Motions that have been submitted.
Have you thought about standing to be a part of the FEC? Would you like to
know more about what this may involve? I am sure that any of the current mem-
bers of the FEC would be happy to discuss the work they do and the meetings they
attend. Why not look to 2024 to try something new, make the most of a skill you
have, and to learn new things.
The BPW UK international project “Van for Chernihiv” is almost ready for de-
livery ( https://www.bpw-projects.org/a-van-for-chernihiv/ ) . Amelie Leclercq
who is working with me, has identified a second-hand VW Transporter vehicle
which is currently being serviced and winter tyres are being put on. It is a wonder-
ful next step, and now we are filling the vehicle with the items from the lists that
Yuliia Zayaka and Victoria Filatova have given us. I must confess that when you
stand for BPW UK President no one will tell you the things you will need to look at.
Until this month, I have never had to look at a small home solar panel, or a gener-
ator, but I asked around with friends that have them to ensure that the one we buy
will be fit for purpose. The temperatures in Chernihiv have been dropping, and as
we feel the chill in the UK, we must spare a thought for our BPW Chernihiv col-
leagues. Within Ukraine the Russian army has been targeting the infrastructure,
which means that they have some rolling power cuts to preserve the network for
the whole country, as much as possible. The shopping list includes hot water bot-
tles, thermos flasks and thermos drinking cups. This is so that when power is on,
they can top up these things to stay warm. Baby milk, nappies, first aid kits and
hygiene products are also needed.
