2. Ambassador spotlight (Country Ambassadors)

                                                           Magda Metreveli (Georgia)

•Current position: Project Manager at Cooperative Research
     •Research field: Infectious Agents
•Number of years serving as ASM CA: 1 year
•Last ASM sponsored event: ASM Microbe 2017
•Next ASM sponsored event: ASM Microbe 2019
•Why should a scientist/professional join ASM? ASM is the largest life science society in the
world, which offers opportunity to grow personally, share ideas and learn from each other.
ASM is unique as it provides great scientific resources for scientists at all career stages, such as
online courses, workshops, library. Besides, ASM offers reduced registration fees, travel award
     grants.
•What is the best experience so far as an ASM CA? My best experience so far as an ASM
Country Ambassador was participation in the 2018 Women in Science (WiSci) STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, Mathematics) Camp in Tbilisi, Georgia, August 2018. I
lead a microbiology workshop for the girls, introduced them to health via microbiology and
presented “Microbiology’s Role in One Health Approach”. This was a wonderful opportunity to
work on a multilateral project directed at making a difference for future women scientists,
engineers, artists, mathematicians, and technical superstars.

                                                                 Istvan Balogh (Hungary)

     •Current position: Managing Director
•Research field: PGPR and microalgae based foliar biostimulants
•Number of years serving as ASM CA: 4 years
•Last ASM sponsored event: Symposium of Student's Scientific Circle at Szent István University
     Budapest
•Next ASM sponsored event: National Symposium of Student's Scientific Circle Biotechnology
     Section
•Why should a scientist/professional join ASM? Because it is not sufficient to have all relevant
news only in one's special scientific area, it is necessary to gather, to learn and to get
orientation in several other areas of microbiology. This is highly supports creativity.
•What is the best experience so far as an ASM YA? Supporting undergraduate to-be
professionals and scientists handing over experiences, mentoring. ASM gives a great support in
     this kind of activity.

                                              Sheehama Jacob Angara (Namibia)

•Current position: Deputy Director Academic Affairs and Research University of Namibia
(UNAM), and Senior Lecturer Biomedical Sciences (Biochemistry and Microbiology, Genetics)
      UNAM School of Medicine
•Research field: Infectious diseases diagnostic, surveillance and prevention technology (TB,
HIV Malaria, Hepatitis, genetics) and Metabolic disorders (diabetes, gout)
•Number of years serving as ASM CA: 4 years
•Last ASM sponsored event: ASM Microbe 2014
•Next ASM sponsored event: Microbiology - Biomedical Sciences Conference at the
      University of Namibia, 2019
•Why should a scientist/professional join ASM? The young scientists should join ASM due to
the fact that ASM provide opportunities to young microbiologists to access international
accredited learning and career development materials, online and hard copy. ASM offer
international networking and opportunities in the field of microbiology. ASM resource library is
an excellent examples, with online training programs, and most important keeping abreast in
the field of Biomedical Sciences by participating in multiple online workshops. The number of
newsletters and event calendar schedules, do guide most of the Masters and PhD
candidates to prepare for conferences and symposia’s of international magnetite.
Membership with ASM provided benefits to free and reduced access to conference
registrations and online learning materials. ASM is guiding microbiologists to innovation and
recognition in the field of biology and biomedical sciences.
•What is the best experience so far as an ASM CA? My best experience was a meeting that I
attended in San Diego California, three years ago, this was an eye opener. And since than I
have managed to publish, and apply for grants that were successful.
