B- Lipids

Lipids or fats contain (C), (H) and (O) and can be either of animal or

plant origin. They are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.
Lipids are highly energetic made up of fatty acids and glycerol. They

           release 9 calories per gram.
They play a role in fighting cold temperatures.
They are stored in the adipose tissue.

            C- Proteins (building food)
Doc 9- Oil and butter are
                                                                                         fatty substances.
           Proteins are organic components
formed by a long chain of amino acids.
           The proteinic molecules contain
           nitrogen atoms.
A combination of two or many amino
           acids forms polypeptides.
Proteins have a role of building up our
           body.
Proteins are the main constituents of all
living matter and they are necessary for
Doc 10- Eggs are sources of Doc 11- Meat is a source of
repairing all cells and tissues. lipids and proteins. animal proteins.
Cheese, meat and fish are rich in
           animal proteins whereas cereals
and some grains are sources of
           plant proteins.
           Animal proteins have a higher
           nutritive value than plant proteins
since they provide the body with a
large quantity and varied types of Doc 12- Foodstuffs rich in proteins.
           amino acids.
Proteins are energetic components that release, similarly to carbohydrates, 4 calories per gram.
However, the degradation of a proteinic molecule gives urea and uric acid that are eliminated by
           the urine.
Proteins ensure the growth and the cellular multiplication which enable the maintenance of our
           body.
