Strategies
The strategies included below have been identified as ways to strengthen asthma coalition
infrastructure so that they can work to reduce the burden of asthma in Indiana. They are organized
by Policy Strategies, Education Strategies, and Awareness Strategies.
Policy Strategies
Listed below are some examples of effective policies that can be implemented by asthma
coalitions. Policy strategies are intended to increase the organizational profile, capacity, and
resources of alliances and their partners to have an impact on reducing the burden of asthma in
Indiana.
• Establish a communications plan.
• Create mechanisms for increased communication among partners and asthma service
providers.
• Building strong relationships both physically and virtually throughout the state.
• Increase the diversity coalition membership by race,
ethnicity, and socio-economic status. Engage people
who have multiple perspectives on asthma, including
patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, asthma
educators, employers, teachers, and child care
providers.
• Increase membership in asthma coalitions by reaching
out to previous members and actively recruiting new
members.
• Identify and develop partnerships with related
coalitions and minority-serving groups.
• Create a flowchart of national and state resources
available to asthma coalitions.
• Identify additional community partners, resources and
funding sources.
• Increase incentives to partners and others who
participate in coalition efforts and programming.
