THE EGO Ivy Informer
Tuesday, March 17, 2015 Sorors from Target V: Global Impact, completed their second visit to Columbia
High School as part of the global classroom series. Lead teachers, Sorors Stephanie Burton, Carol Parham
and Adrienne P. K. Washington presented the lesson. Sorors Cheryl R. Davis, Veronica Collins and Lynn
Sherrod assisted.
Students were given a detailed introduction and overview of Sierra Leone, inclusive of the framework of
the economy, education, civic life, politics, governmental system and geographical location of Sierra Leone.
Health issues associated with Ebola were also covered.
Students were engaged and many had completed their own research prior to the Sorors return. Students
were treated to an African Safari, compliments of Soror Washington providing pictures taken by her
husband during their visit to Africa in 2014. Students were also given the opportunity to hear and dance to
some of the moving music of Africa. Sorors arrived fashionably dressed in garments that characterize the
life style of Sierra Leone.
Students were assigned a country to study prior to the committee members’ next visit to the school on April
20, 2015. The students will participate as delegates to a mock United Nations General Assembly hearing.
The “Model United Nations” simulation will feature a debate on the current issue of travel restrictions into
and out of Sierra Leone and the effect of closing the borders on the country’s economy. ALL Sorors are
welcome to attend.
