REIGNITING THE LIGHT: 2020 EGO CHAPTER RETREAT

Our Lights were Reignited at the 2020 EGO Chapter
Retreat! Held virtually on August 14-15, 2020, about 200
sorors participated. The Friday Fun Night was marked with
six activities: Cooking with Chef BK Slater, Arts & Craft
with Hammer & Stain, Modern Calligraphy 101 with Soror
Robyn Jackson, Yoga with Trainer Tasha Edwards and
Games with Sorors Phyllis Roberts and Tonya Briggins.
The Day of Learning started with 29th Supreme
Basileus Soror Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson “Reigniting our
Hearts of Service". Soror Dorothy illuminated on how we can
inspire the builders of tomorrow through purpose. She
challenged attendees to listen, bring out the best in others
and to be inclusive.
We transitioned to concurrent workshops.
•“Hearts that are True” focused on Physical, Mental and
Spiritual Self-Care. Panelists were Sorors Camille Scruggs,
Tanisha Smith and LaDonna McCann. Tips and words of
encouragement were conveyed.
•“Strengthen our Strand of Pearls” - The sisterhood
discussion focused on lifelong active membership and how to
stay connected in spite of the busyness of life. Presenters
were Golden Soror Sandra Daniels, Silver Star Soror Mary
Rankin and “Ivy” Soror Carol Woods.
•“Pearlfect Protocol and Operations” focused on how to
navigate the business of AKA and EGO in the new normal
with a focus on Finance 301 and Technology/Brand
Management 301. Chapter treasurer, Soror Cynthia
Hargrove and Technology Committee Chairman, Soror
Lorraine Lacy presented the high-level operational material.
In the closing session, Soror Renee Knight delivered
an awesome musical selection - "AKAs We Light Up Lives"
with lyrics written for the retreat! Soror Dawn C. Stanley,
Membership Chairman, provided insight on “Leading in
Times of Change” by employing the “Be” attitudes and
finding balance.
