A thriving modern learning ecosystem is based on the commitment which requires mutual synchronization across diverse
communities. One big goal as an educational organization is to encourage the exchange of knowledge and ideas among
faculty and students. The establishment of a Community of Practice (CoPs) is suggested. Ranmuthugala et. al (2011)
summarised various methods for CoPs to interact and to communicate. I am highlighting or providing suggestions to
include some of these activities in my ecosystem to address the lack of a formal CoP. Access the link here: Community
of Practice.
Social learning contributes to the learning culture for faculty and students (Walcutt and Schutz, 2019). Learning in a
social age is seen as ever-changing, co-created, and adaptable. As a modern learning ecosystem, we should commit to
social learning.
The student
Social learning takes place informally and is driven by distributed communities. These informal communities add
knowledge, perspectives, and experiences valuable to a new creation of knowledge. The formal learning system
interacts with the informal social learning system. Walcutt and Schutz (2019) suggested the following to accelerate a
social learning culture. Watch this video on how to accelerate a social learning culture.

I would recommend the implementations of these strategies for social learning in our ecosystem. In the previous
discussion on culture for learning, Walcutt and Malone (2019) mentioned some implementation steps for establishing
a learning culture. One of the aspects was creating opportunities for self-regulated or self-directed learning. Modern
learning ecosystems should strive to include the independent, student-centred education. It is suggested to include
online education options, where students are exposed to various information resources and communication tools to
encourage independent collaboration and research. Self-regulated skills should be developed with the support of
faculty and instructors, asking essential questions, to indicate knowledge gaps of students. Below is an image indicating
possible intervention strategies to enhance self-regulation in a modern learning ecosystem.
