The human Infrastructure – People
Human resource management is an important component in a modern learning eco-systems (Walcutt and Schatz, 2019).
A variety of “differently skilled” (people) contributors are needed to support, innovate, and implement best practice
teaching and learning. These include talent managers, learning instructional designers, courseware developers (Walcutt and
Schatz., 2019), and teaching faculty. These individuals’ interactions are important to support a modern learning ecosystem
and to drive knowledge. Until recently, “Striving for Tesla” had no human resource department, thus appropriate
performance support was lacking. Performance support is a way of helping employees improve their skills and use their
collective knowledge while working to maximize their performance (Patel, 2020). Jaafar (2014) stated Continuous
Professional Development (CPD) in the context of an educational institution is seen as a requirement to improve teaching
practices and to enhance content or subject knowledge. To address improving skills of faculty for teaching and learning a
Continuous Professional Development program (CPD) is suggested. “Striving for Tesla” technological infrastructure and
more specific the LMS can be utilized to support such a program, including collecting data of faculty using technology, and
sharing of knowledge. A CPD program promotes personal growth, collaboration, and a culture of learning. Life-long learning
is a culture of learning focusing on developing the whole person (cognitively, emotionally, physical, and social capabilities).
This includes an interaction of all people in the modern learning ecosystem.
The learning culture
Walcutt and Schatz (2019) suggested implementation steps for lifelong learning in the modern ecosystem. I recommend
including these steps as part of our institutional practices. Below is a summary of the suggested steps to be included in my
learning ecosystem.
