would walk over after school and spend time with us, till Myl Mama
finished work and drove them home.
When they were both much older and my mother visited Australia, the
dear friends were able to resume their Scrabble games. Then, occasional
phone calls, video calls and photographs, when the Mylvaganam children
or I were in Colombo, kept them abreast of each other’s family news.
They were both always very excited to just hear each other’s voices and
exchange video messages.
I am thankful to have known Thilaha Anty & have very fond memories

From Grangdaughters Gaithri and Shanki
Appamma, we can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done. You
came to Australia after giving up everything back home to build a
community and home here for us. You will be remembered by a lot of
people as a dedicated teacher, someone who had their home open to
so many people who needed your help and as an active member of our
community. You taught us so much about our history, culture and
religion and for that we will be forever be grateful. However, what we
will miss most is our close friend, someone who was there for all our
milestones and was our constant cheerleader, who stayed up late
playing cards and scrabble with us, who introduced us to all the
classics and musicals, who was the constant source for all those lame
jokes and who gave us the best hugs when we needed them most. We
are truly lucky to have had such a long time with you and so many fond
memories together. We will always miss you but will never forget
everything you have given us.
Rest in peace Appamma XXX
