Tribute to My Sinnamma
Sinnamma, we are so sad that you are not with us in flesh anymore, but
the memories will be with us always. I remember the good times as
though it was yesterday. Sithappa, you and children welcomed me into
your home in 1968 and brought me up as your own child. You were a
great encourager to me and would always advise me on how to face the
challenges in my life.
Our family, the Rajaratnam brothers and sisters, will always be grateful to
Sithappah & you for the foundation you laid in my life. You helped me
find gainful employment and guided me towards turning it in to a career
in management. Your constant advice about saving money for the
future was an awakening for me - I still remember the day I got told off
for using up my first six months salary, by treating my family and friends
in Jaffna and taking them all out to the cinema, instead of saving it!
Though I lost my father when I was thirteen, you both showered me
with your love and took care of me from the time I was sent to you in
Colombo, after my schooling with Sellathurai Periappa in Jaffna, till I
was able to stand on my own feet. I felt very safe, secure and loved by all
of you, when I lived with you.
I learnt a lot about life skills, honesty, perseverance, sharing, saving and
working hard - all good things, from your family. You were very
generous and caring people. I will always remember the time I stayed
with you, fondly.
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to visit you in Australia.
Sinnammah, you recognised me straight away with a big smile, and hailed
me, Rajakumar!
I grew up with Chittta, Deva, Jano, Arul and Vasu and we used to have a
lot of fun together. I will always remember Sithappa & you, lovingly.
Rest in Peace Sinnamma
