Time passed, I had moved on, career, life, but my memories of my

teachers, mentors and their influence in my life remain indelible. A
few years ago, the powers of the internet helped me contact Mrs.
Mylvaganam. The letter that I wrote to her contained a few hundred
words – I could have articulated my emotions in just two words –

“Thank You”. “Thank You” for teaching me, “Thank You” for
inculcating values and a sense of discipline and a million such “Thank
you’s” for everything. Her distinguishing trait was that she never
expected anything in return for helping mould an 8-year old mind. I
was elated to receive her response. Of the thousands of students
that she had influenced over the years, Mrs. Mylvaganam

remembered me!! That alone was a singular honour for me.

In Islamic Spirituality, one of the greatest charitable acts is imparting
knowledge, termed “Sadaqathul Jaariya”, for this is a charity that

         keeps giving over generations.

There was no darkness on the day that Mrs. Tilaka Mylvaganam
transitioned, for the universe was illuminated by a myriad of lights.
May her soul achieve supreme peace.

for others.’ – Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
