THE RULES:
x Always use a sharp HB pencil and a straight ruler.
x Always draw on a flat and stable surface.
x Be as neat and tidy as possible in your drawing.
x Make sure that you are always accurate when measuring and when drawing towards/from
your vanishing point.
x Always draw or find your horizon line and vanishing point first before drawing.
x Objects, whether natural or man-made, must steadily diminish in width and length into the
background until they vanish at a point on the horizon.
x Remember that all vertical lines remain vertical (straight up) for example, trees, lamp
stands, people and doors.
THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF PERSPECTIVE:
1. ONE-POINT PERSPECTIVE
Here there is one vanishing point at which the converging lines meet; therefore the size of an
object will diminish as it moves further into the distance. Vertical and horizontal lines remain
parallel.
Procedure:
1. Draw a horizon line with a ruler, parallel to the bottom of the block/page.
2. Draw in your vanishing point anywhere on the horizon line, as a tiny dot.
3. Now draw a square anywhere below the horizon line.
4. Join the top two corners of the box with converging lines, to the VP.
5. Now decide where to cut the triangle to form your square. Do this by drawing a parallel line
between the two converging lines, anywhere behind the square.
6. To draw a transparent box... Connect the bottom two comers of your square to the VP,
with converging lines. Draw two lines, from where you cut the end of your square, down to
the bottom converging lines. Now join these two lines, where they meet the bottom
converging lines, with a parallel line.
Homework: In one point perspective, draw two of the following:
1. A box above the horizon line.
2. A present.
3. A washing machine.
4. A railway track.
5. A street scene.
