Frank had taken cars and motorbikes to pieces and put them back together again from early
childhood and had achieved his first boyhood dream of driving a Police car. His second dream, of

becoming a Formula one driver, was getting closer until a bad accident in a Formula Ford race at
Donnington Park, which almost took his life. His lungs had collapsed and he had broken both legs,
which required a lot of wire and metal pins.

His recovery took a long time and he wanted to get back to the Police force as a driver but instead,
they offered him the chance to head the Mets Road Traffic Accident Investigation department.

His painstaking thoroughness became recognised in the insurance world as well as the police and

when he retired, he opened up his own investigation company in Fulham.

The tall gates were slightly ajar but rather than just barge in, I knocked hard before entering, I knew
            Frank would appreciate the politeness.

He was lying under a Jaguar XJ8. ‘Good morning Frank.’ I flashed him my Foreign and
            Commonwealth ID.

            ‘Six?’ He asked.

I nodded. ‘I’m hoping you can give me a few extra details about a recent investigation you did for
            us?’

‘No such thing as extra details. What I find goes into the report.’

‘Of course but I wondered if we may have a chat about it anyway.’

‘Are you referring to the Perivale case?’

            ‘Yes I am.’

            ‘Are you here officially?’

‘Not exactly but I am working on something that might also involve that incident.’

‘Well I am sorry. If you wish for me to discuss a report then you will need clearance.’

‘Yes fine but that incident involved a female member of the Intelligence Service.’

‘It makes no odds who was in the car, you will have to have clearance.’

‘Frank. The woman burned to death in that car right in front of me.’

I was starting to get very agitated and my voice was slowly getting angrier. I swear if Frank said one
            more time I needed clearance.

‘For God’s sake. I could have lost my own life trying to get her out of the car. That woman who died
in front of me was my wife. My wife! Do you understand? I stood and watched, helpless, as her skin
