‘No thank you Thomas. I think I will take a cab straight home. Goodnight and please apologise to
            everyone for me.’

‘OK. Might see you tomorrow then.’

Anne walked to the end of Davies Street and turned into Oxford Street where it would be easier to
            catch a taxi.

She managed to flag one down and as she was getting in an American voice behind her said, ‘Do
you mind if we share. I’m Richard Caldicot and I apologise for jerking you around.’

‘You alright sharing love?’ the taxi driver called over his shoulder.

            ‘Yes, I’m fine.’ She replied.

They both got into the taxi.

            ‘Where to then love?’

‘Would you still like to eat?’ Caldicot asked.

            ‘No thank you.’ She replied’

            ‘How about a drink?’

‘Are you coming on to me?’

‘Well, I had no idea such a good looking woman would pick up my envelope.’

‘Just tell me what you want and then go.’ Anne turned her attention to the driver.’ Can you head
for Perivale? I will give you the address later.’

            ‘OK love.’

            The cab pulled away.

‘I apologise again for tonight but I guessed you would have some cover with you and I didn’t want

anyone seeing me give you this.’

He took an envelope from his pocket and passed it to her.

‘Don’t open it until you are completely alone and then think long and hard before you decide what
to do or who to show it to. If you decide to do nothing then don’t ever tell anyone it is in your
            possession.’

‘What is it and where did it come from?’

‘You will recognise what it is when you read it. It is a gift from Arnold Warner, he wants to make
amends. OK cabby, let me out.’
