Once that was done, I grabbed the keys to the Denali and took off... slowly. I
started driving though the city streets to get to the freeway. It was a bit
different, but not bad. However it made me realize what you take for
granted. What a precious gift site is.
I had always been a confident driver, drove big cars, pulled trailers, pulled
boats and all sorts of thing like that. There wasn’t a situation, when it came to
driving, I ever felt uncomfortable doing. Things had now changed… My
peripheral vision was shortened, which I expected, but the second guessing
myself was something new I'd never experienced before. I took it slow,
making sure to take my time and that I could get adjusted to what I was
seeing.
My hairdresser was about 45 minutes away. It was mostly all highway
driving. As I approached the freeway entrance ahead, I thought, here we
go. I quickly decided to stay in the right lane, since my right eye was
covered. Not having the traffic on that side would be one less thing I'd have to
deal with. After about 10 minutes, I made some lane changes to get
comfortable. It was a beautiful day which helped.
I arrived at my hair appointment in Gilroy. I was proud of myself. I didn't let
the fear control me. I parked the car and walked into the salon. There was
my Heather. Always a warm face to great me, always positive with a loving
attitude, and always a dear friend I could count on.
