March or April. That would be the first time I go back to Dr. Phan since the removal of
the radiation eye plaque.
During this time, I struggled if I should I take vitamin supplements, prior to my eye
radiation procedure. I had a conversation with my radiologist on whether to take vitamin
supplements before, during and after treatment. Both he and Dr. Phan thought it would
be ok to take my vitamins up until about a week before the radiation plaque was put on
and then wait several weeks after to resume them.
The whole vitamin/nutrition conversation was a bit unclear. The doctors didn’t
seem to have a lot of information regarding them or how to think about
incorporating them. They did feel they could possibly be
counterintuitive. The way I understood their view was that the radiation was
going to go into the cells and do its thing. Vitamins could counter act or could
possibly prohibit the radiations effectiveness. So, after doing some additional
reading, I took my vitamins up to 1 week before surgery, and then didn’t
resume them until the end of February.
I'd also struggled with juicing and weather to do that. I decided to cut that out
as well. My thinking was that I didn’t want to strengthen the cancer cells in
any way during the critical time of radiation. That was my decision.
(Past Information) My body chemistry had been off for several years. Some
of my vitamin and mineral levels had been extremely low, like my Vitamin D
and Iron. They'd been low for years. I'd even been losing my hair, so much
so, that my hairdresser, Heather, had been telling me for years that the
amount of loss hair wasn't normal and that I needed to get checked. I'd never
been very good about taking care of myself. It's something I wish I'd done
better.
Being 46, my body was starting to show the signs of getting older, I was also
experiencing Premenopausal symptoms. I had attempted to go to the doctors, a
few years ago and have a checkup, but they didn't to have good tests. They only
checked a few things. But that's when I really realized I was deficient.
I also went to a specialized hormone clinic. They confirmed my testosterone levels
were low and that I was in the beginning stages of Menopause. They'd suggested I
start taking Bio Identicals, which after reading, I'd decided against.
I'd wished I'd been better and more on top of my health. My body had been telling me
for the last few years something wasn’t right. It was out of balance. Maybe because of
that, it allowed the eye melanoma to grow. I don’t know but could all of this had
something to do with it?
